Lime Splash

My most current work is entitled:  Lime Splash.  It is from a reference picture by Mark Lewin.  I am doing it with Faber-Castell Polychromos on Stonehenge Vellum Finish 250 gsm paper.

Cherished

This piece is recreated from a book cover that I really liked.  It includes an old book published in the 1930's, Lisianthus and daisies, and a locket that Steve, my husband, gave to our daughter, Carissa, for her 16th birthday.  I used Strathmore 400 paper and FC Polychromos.

Lunchtime

My friend and fellow color pencil artist, Patty, sent me some suedeboard.  It is like velvet on a board.  Yes, we all remember those Elvis velvet paintings!  This was a very different material for colored pencil painting with the velvet surface.  I used my Polychromos and Holbeins.  Buffalo fur is not an easy thing to recreate, just saying.....

Peek-A-Boo

Anyone who knows me knows that I would have to do a flamingo piece at some point!  I am sure I was a flamingo in a past life.  This photograph was taken by Bill Webb whom gave me permission to render it in Colored Pencil. This piece was done on Canson Mi Teintes paper with FC Polychromos and new Holbein pencils that I imported from Japan.  The paper was a nightmare!  The pencils were great!

The Line Up

Up to this point I had not named any of my pieces.  I became a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America nationally and then joined the Idaho Chapter as well.  The group meets in Idaho Falls and are a really exceptional bunch of artists!  In the meantime I had begun work a "practice" piece that took on a life of it's own!  This "practice" piece became my first museum showing!  It was created on Stonehenge paper with Caran D'Ache Luminance 6901 pencils with a few FC Polychromos.  Loved the pencils AND the paper! Yay!

Indian Corn

Practice, practice, practice. This is a practice piece I found In Alyona Nickelsen's book: Colored Pencil Painting Bible.   At this point I am finding out that the finished product depends a lot on the type of paper you use and the pencils your choose.  I am a Faber-Castell Polychromo fan for life.  Paper, however, is still an ongoing experiment!

First Big Piece (for Mom's Christmas)

I have to say, my Mom has always been my biggest fan. Except when my Dad was alive, then it was a tie!! Her home looks like an art gallery with me as the resident artist! She has pieces of mine from high school (and grade school, YIKES!). So I embarked on my first large piece. This piece took me months to create. Thank goodness I started this in July, 2010 or it never would have been finished in time for Christmas. As it was, the last month was a colored pencil frenzy.

First CP painting (practice piece)

I began colored pencil painting without benefit of a class. Ordered a few books and DVD's and began. This is a practice piece from Janie Gildow's book/DVD.

Welcome!

This is my new blog!  I was really fine without another thing to update, clean, feed, water, change, add to, but my BFF Patty decided that we needed blogs to show our artwork to the world!  So here I am.  I have to say that I have recently re-entered the world of art and am feeling good about it.  I hope that you enjoy the pieces that I share with you half as much as I enjoyed creating them.  Thanks for looking!
